Well thought out and bravo for looking at the term "humanist." I have slowly and strongly moved to not using the term "humanist" anymore. I prefer what was actually one the historical terms before "humanist." It was "humaneist."

I think we give humans way too much unearned credit by using the term humanist to describe the attitude and values of the Golden Rule (more or less) and rational, deeper thinking. I no longer strive for the Darwinian baggage that is "human." I am thinking that you would agree a bit to that preference of mine.

To be "human" is to be the top predator, and we can see how well that has gone. The new jungle is far more dangerous and insidious than the old jungle. The old jungle at least allowed for some escape or alternatives. Human density alone is responsible for much of the growth of "predation." And, toxic capitalism has exploded predatory expertise like never before. My motto these days: "Stay low, keep moving."
